Job Description and Policies

Alba Childcare Agency is an employment business and seeks to find a suitable position within our clientele.  Alba Childcare Agency expects a high standard of care from those looking after children in child care settings and believes that at all times the welfare of the child should be regarded with the utmost importance. Our aim is to help each child reach his or her full potential in all areas of development.  This is achieved through the experiences, they experience while at nursery. You will be asked to work as an effective member of an early year’s team delivering a high quality child centred service which meets the needs of the childcare setting. Your duties are wide ranged and varied from different childcare settings. You will be asked to take time at every place and become accustomed to different policies and procedures in the different settings.

 

Main Tasks and Duties

Contribute to the activities of the childcare setting and help deliver a programme of learning activities through active involvement to stimulate children’s interests, aptitudes and abilities.

Respond to the differing needs of the individual children, by applying sound knowledge of child development and of the appropriate curriculum on a daily basis.

Observe children during play and work, and be responsible for recording written observation notes, on children’s’ development and the effectiveness of activities, to assist with the planning and monitoring of child development.

At all times, be aware of the safety of children, e.g. reporting and, if necessary, being responsible for putting unsafe play equipment out of use.

Have a sound knowledge of Childcare guidelines governing safety and security of children; and be familiar with the reporting process.

Implement child protection policies and procedures. Children shall be protected from abuse. Confident and secure in the care they receive. It is the staff’s duty to report any suspicions of possible child abuse to the manager or deputy of the childcare setting, who will then contact social services for information and advice.

Implement food and hygiene procedures in accordance with the childcare setting policies and legislation.

Contribute to the general administration and organisation of the childcare setting by:

Supervising indoor and outdoor play areas, and where appropriate, develop children’s play skills;
Support children with toileting and clean soiled children as necessary;
Cleaning up of spills and body fluids to ensure safe conditions for children and staff;
Preparing, supervising the issue and consumption of snacks;
Basic maintenance and care of equipment such as dressing up clothes, play materials, including visual and aural aids etc.; this includes laundering and repair of such items;
Preparing activity materials such as mixing paints and cutting-out;
Setting up and dismantling activity equipment indoors and outdoors;
Undertaking the basic hygiene routines of the establishment such as refrigerator checks;
Occasional general clerical duties such as photocopying and filing;
Contributing to the general security, including door duty, by welcoming carers, being alert to visitors’ behaviour etc.;
Undertaking cleaning, clearing and setting up, according to the establishment;

NB; this is a general level of duties and responsibilities, not an exhaustive list of detailed activities.

All Alba Childcare Agency staff working within a childcare setting must understand the importance of respecting a child’s individuality. All children have a right to equal access to all areas and equipment in the nursery, regardless of any special needs, they may or may not have and regardless of gender. It is important that adults respect and help develop positive attitudes towards different cultures, races and languages.

Managing Children’s Behaviour Policy

All Alba Childcare Agency staff working within a childcare setting should have a clear understanding of the need for care and control when managing children’s behaviour. Helping them to learn self-discipline, to behave in an appropriate and acceptable manner, to keep them safe, to get on well with others, to control anger and sort out disagreements. To be effective this needs to be positive and constructive.

Health and Safety Policy

1. Remember to wear protective gloves and aprons when dealing with any bodily fluids.
2. Read all instructions on cleaning products before use.
3. A first aider is on the premises at all times and all injuries reported.
4. Alba Childcare Agency staff should make them self aware of appropriate fire drills, emergency exits, fire points and first aid boxes.
5. Suitable clothes and shoes should be worn at all times, (please also take indoor shoes) i.e. dark trousers (not jeans), sensible top (not low cut), flat shoes, jewellery should be kept to a minimum and hair tied back.
6. Alba Childcare Agency staff should familiarise themselves with individual nursery policies on entering the nursery.
7. No Smoking Policy applies to all nurseries and premises.

 

Remember when in doubt ask and use your common sense.

Confidentiality

Alba Childcare Agency staff should be aware of the importance of maintaining confidentiality, they should: –

1. Respect the children attending, their parents and the information about themselves they share.
2. Acknowledge that children and parents would not wish information they share to be further disclosed.
3. Accept as a professional obligation the need to protect the confidentiality of personal information disclosed.
4. Maintain the trust that a willingness to disclose personal information implies.
